I found Dick on Zillow and reached out to him on a whim based on his reviews. Most people recommend using an agent who's been recommended by family or friends, but that wasn't an option for me. I was hesitant because come on, it's the internet, and my boyfriend & I are first time homebuyers (basically prime targets for scams). But I promise, Dick is a real person, he sold us a real house, and we're also his new neighbors! Dick got us into a house painlessly with professional recommendations for mortgage brokers, attorneys, inspectors, and even a local painter (who also happens to live in our neighborhood!). We purchased our first home with Dick's assistance back in October of 2015. From the very beginning he was friendly and approachable. Dick was also very knowledgable about the areas we were looking at. He walked us through some of the things we should and should not worry about as first time home buyers. When we first spoke with Dick we were looking for an older home on a large plot, Dick suggested that we might also want to look at some town homes as they could be a good fit for us. We initially were against buying a town home but after we looked at a few we really liked we decided that would be a good fit for us. Dick was also knowledgable about government programs for first time home buyers, if it wasn't for Dick we would have missed out on 5,000 of interest free money. The one area of improvement I would reccomend for Dick is further evaluating his mortgage broker partners he works with. We worked with a mortgage broker company Dick recommended called MidWest Equity that we did not have a positive experience with. Although we had a bad experience with MidWest Equity Dick handled the situation well and overall we had a positive experience with him and we would recommend him to others.

My experience with Dick Barr was incredible. When I started looking for a home I decided to go it my own as I've always believed in my own abilities. Realizing the work involved, I decided maybe it would be best to go with someone. I came across several agents that were "Yes Men (and women)" Everything about the house was beautiful, everything was perfect for me, and I could feel the urge to decide right then and there. A friend of mine pointed me to the sight zillow.com On the side I saw a bunch of reviews and one was of Dick Barr. The reviews were just honest and kind. People he hadn't even closed on homes with and he maintained a kind relationship with. I sent him a message and the next day he was setting up a meeting to sit down and talk. When we sat down he gave me a lot of information and really worked on laying a foundation of getting to know me and what my expectations were. We connected on a lot of things and he was very personable. I'm pretty cautious and I felt very at ease working with him. He expressed that this process is the greatest moment for most people, that first house for our family, and stressed how important it was that he was here to facilitate that experience. After that, my girlfriend and I had no reservations about him, personable, easy going, and insightful, and he even keyed in on a lot of things about us that I didn't really notice. Through the whole process he talked with us, gave us tips, and guided us into this unknown process explaining all the obstacles we may and will encounter. We went into houses and he was honest, he found defects, he knew a lot about building codes, and he taught me a lot of what is within reasonable expectation for my abilities as far as fixing goes (I'm one of those guys that tends to bite off more than I can chew), and he was honest when he saw things that he just didn't think was right for us. After several houses, we came across one that was perfect for us. He was there for the home inspections, pest inspections, talked to us, and just really eased us through the process. We wanted the house in March, closed in May and it is mid June and we're pretty much all settled. He's an incredible guy to have on your side, he knows his job well and he's very accurate with his estimations and expectations, great foresight into potential issues and everything. The first time I met Dick he made a self-depreciating joke about his name. He said, "most people call me Dick, even before I tell them my name."
That couldn't be further from the truth. Dick answered his phone every time we called, and if he missed the call he called back immediately. There were times I felt bad for bothering him so much at what I'm sure were inopportune times but he always made us feel welcomed every time. Dick is a very passive agent. There was never a sales pitch, and there was definitely never any pressure. Most times it felt like we were his only client with how much time and attention he paid to us.
